D2 Technologies and GCT® Semiconductor Offer Mobile VoIP over WiMAX Solution

Partnership offers complete solutions for VoIP and IP communications over WiMAX
for mobile devices based on the Android™ and Linux operating systems

Las Vegas, NV (International CTIA Wireless® Show) and Santa Barbara, CA – March 22, 2010 — D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, today announced a leading supplier of mobile WiMAX™ solutions to the global market, to deliver VoIP over WiMAX for mobile devices based on the Android™ and Linux operating systems.  D2’s breakthrough mCUE® converged communications client and its industry leading vPort embedded VoIP engine power two reference designs incorporating GCT’s GDM7205, the world’s first mobile WiMAX IEEE 802.16e Wave 2-compliant chip solution.  The combined solutions offer OEMs and ODMs a faster and more economical way to deliver a range of WiMAX mobile devices to market with broad VoIP and IP communications capabilities.

At the 2010 International CTIA Wireless® Show, being held March 23-25 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, D2 will demonstrate Android mobile VoIP calls over WiMAX via mCUE running on the TI Zoom™ OMAP3 II mobile development platform integrated with GCT’s GDM7205 modem IC.  D2 will also showcase an optimized integration of its vPort VoIP engine embedded directly on GDM7205 for low cost, single-chip mobile applications.  Attendees can get a first look at these joint D2 – GCT integrated solutions by contacting D2 Technologies’ representatives to arrange a private demonstration.

“WiMAX and 4G networks are poised for phenomenal growth; however, mobile devices that can take advantage of their greater bandwidth and speed have been slow to enter the market,” said Doug Makishima, chief operating officer at D2 Technologies.  “Now that the industry is actively working toward the creation and delivery of a stable WiMAX infrastructure, OEMs and ODMs are eager to launch products aimed at fulfilling consumer demand.  By partnering with GCT, we can offer a turnkey mobile platform for delivering 4G unified communications/VoIP over WiMAX on the Android or Linux OS.”

GCT’s compact single-chip GDM7205 offers a flexible architecture coupled with ultra low power, ideally suited to satisfy the high demands of multimedia processing and wireless connectivity.  When integrated with D2's vPort software platform, it provides all of the components necessary for manufacturers to quickly bring dual mode Wi-Fi and WiMAX enabled mobile devices to market. vPort’s advanced VoIP functionality includes voice quality assurance technology such as jitter buffer and packet loss compensation, and enables rich voice features achieved with minimal memory and CPU impact.  mCUE enables today’s most in-demand applications and features including Skype™ interoperability, video call/chat, seamless call handover and HD voice.

“GCT wants to offer its customers the most advanced chipsets possible for efficiently and economically delivering new products built on OS such as Linux,” said Dr. Kyeongho “KH” Lee, president and CEO of GCT Semiconductor.  “By porting D2’s vPort to the GDM7205, OEMs and ODMs get the industry’s most advanced IP communications capabilities in a small and efficient form factor – in effect, a complete solution for accelerating design-to-market timelines for VoIP over WiMAX mobile devices.”
